The Cavernotome C&R is also CE approved and Uroan 21 has completed a device listing for the Cavernotome with the US FDA. The Cavernotome is available for sale in the US. Each set of Cavernotome C&R consists of four Cavernotome tools of 9, 10, 11, & 12 mm. They are sterilised by gas and are disposable.

The
main objective in the implantation of the penile prosthesis
is to correctly place the prosthesis inside the corpora cavernosa.
Sometimes, surgery becomes very difficult due to the severe
fibrosis that is often located in the corpora cavernosa, or
also due to an important penile curvature. The Cavernotome
aids the surgeon in overcoming these problems as described
below

What are the advantages of the Cavernotomes C&R?
The use of the Cavernotomes is indispensable for the implant
of the penile prosthesis, and specially, in cases of severe
fibrosis. The Cavernotomes scrape the fibrotic areas from
the inside towards the tunica albuginea, completely removing
the fibrotic plaque, increasing the inner diameter of the corpora
cavernosa, and also improving the elasticity of the tunica albuginea.
In cases of penile curvature or Peyronie's disease, once the
fibrotic plaque has been removed with the Cavernotomes, the
penis become straight. This technique avoids performing corporatomies
and, consequently, plastias of goratex, dura madre, or skin
whose aesthetic and functional results are very dubious. |

Technical
characteristics:
The set consists of four Cavernotomes of 9, 10, 11, 12 mm. made out of stainless steel and the scraping area and handle constructed in a biocompatible polycarbonate. Its length is 30 cms and its weight is 165, 169, 173 and 175 gr. respectively
|
The working area of 10 cm. of length has a smooth facet besides
the scraping facet, which consists of 75 scraping edges of 0,5
mm. and 9 furrows.
Cavernotome number 10 is marked from 0 cms to 15 cms in order
to be used not only as a dilator, but also to measure the corpora
cavernosa. The Cavernotomes of 11 and 12 mm. respectively have
4 scraping edges on their distal portion that are used to dilate
and remove the fibrotic plaque of the proximal and distal portion
of the corpora cavernosa. |
| How
to use the Cavernotome:
When the albuginean membrane of the corpora cavernosa has
been incised, Cavernotome no. 9 is introduced in order to
dilate the proximal portion, The smooth zone should be placed
against the medium wall of the corpora cavernosa with the
pointed edges against the external area, and through an inward
and outward movement of the Cavernotome, grooves of 0,5 mm.,
are made. Thereby increasing the inner diameter of the corpora
cavernosa with each application. Then a dilatation is effected
on the distal part, ensuring that the smooth zone of the Cavernotome
is applied and displaced against the pectiniform wall, with
the pointed edges against the external part. When the Cavernotome
reaches the end of distal portion it can be easily detected
since it can be felt by pressing with the fingers on the glans.
The Cavernotomes C&R will be used progressively 9 - 10
- 11 and 12 mm. depending of the size of the prosthesis to
be implanted. Besides facilitating the surgical performance
and placing correctly the prosthesis without creating tension,
the Cavernotomes C&R also facilitate the suture of the
tunica albuginea, thus reducing post-surgical pain
Advantages:
· Eradicates the fibrotic plaque.
· The albuginea recovers its extensivity.
· Facilitates the dilatation and enlargement of the
span of inner diameter of the corpora cavernosa of the penis.
· Protects the urethra and the medium wall of the corpora
cavernosa avoiding perforation during the dilatation process.
· Represents a significant reduction of the surgical
process and therefore, reduces the risk of post-surgery infections.
